Café to re-open Wednesdays only following University Management unexplicable decision.
The café is currently closed as we are being forbidden to cook on campus following a decision made over summer by University Management. We are fighting this in every way we can! If you want to help us, start by adding your name to our petition : Save Shared Planet Café! While we are trying our best to re-open the café, we have decided to keep offering our cheap and delicious food EVERY WEDNESDAY in the Johnston building, between 12 and 4. The food will be made at home by our amazing volunteers with produce sourced from our own VegBag and from the The Corner. If you are able to, then we would love to receive donations to help cover the costs. We believe that having an active society on campus and a physical place for local students concerned with social and environmental issues to meet, discuss and get active is vital. We hope that by bringing the café back on Wednesdays, we can one again create this community. Come and join us!
Shared Planet Café
The Shared Planet Café is a volunteer-run café that offers cheap, healthy and ethical food and acts as a platform for political activism and cultural exchange.
We are open three days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and our dedicated volunteers spend many hours each week helping out in the kitchen. All of our ingredients are sourced from local providers: our bread comes from The Breadmaker; our vegetables from Bridgefoot; and we buy our wholesale products from the workers' co-operative Greencity Wholefoods.
Apart from providing our customers with the cheapest food in Aberdeen, we're a vibrant place for activists and campaigners. Over the last few years, we've been running various campaigns on campus and beyond - our recent endeavours include the Fossil Free Campaign and the Mooncup Campaign.
Our society is a platform for all those concerned with human rights, development and environmental issues. The group is affiliated with the People & Planet network, a UK student campaigning organisation providing material and guidance for different yearly campaigns.
