Stop TTIP Aberdeen

We're a local direct, non-violent, action group and part of a wide international movement against TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) and CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement).

Why we oppose these trade agreements

TTIP and CETA represent a seismic shift in power away from people, and the governments they elect, towards corporations. The discussions are currently taking place largely in secret. Even MEPs were only recently allowed to read the text. If TTIP proceeds as it is we’ll experience a reduction in standards; job losses; and we’ll cede power over not only trade but global economic policy.

Who we are & what we do

We have secured funding, materials and assistance from a number of NGOs such as 38 Degrees, Global Justice Now, War On Want, and Friends Of The Earth Europe. We’ve had a few smaller meetings to organise and we’re now planning a larger public meeting to raise awareness and provide more information about what TTIP is and how it will affect us. We’re also pursuing letter-writing, petitioning and direct lobbying campaigns. Three of our activists were recently in Brussels with 38 Degrees to hear more about corporate lobbying, protest outside the European Commission, and visit the European Parliament. They also spent time with our Green and Labour MEPs from across the UK. Looking further ahead, we’d also like to organise some sort of demonstration in Aberdeen, and take part in any actions across Scotland and the UK.

We are growing fast and we’d encourage students like yourselves to get involved too! The anti-TTIP movement locally, nationally and internationally is diverse and vibrant. If you’d like to be updated on our campaign, you can join our mailing list or email us, follow us on facebook or twitter. #StopTTIP #NoTTIP
